OBJECTIVE
Life skills development among women fish vendors in Tamil Nadu and enhance their knowledge on maintaining hygiene, better decision making, communication, and encouraging gender equality in workplaces and communities.
CHALLENGE
Awareness of hygiene practices and maintaining good health was very low in the community. Traditional gender roles and norms were normalised, and women were unaware of their capabilities and the roles they could play in contributing to the household.
SOLUTION
Capacity-building sessions with the community leaders, most of whom were women, helped them understand and build skills necessary for them to take up leadership roles.
IMPACT

Significant improvement in understanding of the concept of self-confidence by adopting and adapting the skills gained into daily life.

Improved communication skills and problem-solving approaches to make better decisions.

Ensuring personal health and hygiene at work.

Renewed perspective on gender roles and better application of increased agency in households and workplaces.
